About the Author
Leonard Ravenhill was born in 1907 in the city of Leeds, in Yorkshire, England. After his conversion to Christ, he was trained for the ministry at Cliff College. It soon became evident that evangelism was his forte, and he engaged it with both vigor and power. Eventually he became one of England's foremost outdoor evangelists. His meetings in the war years drew traffic jamming crowds in Britain, and great numbers of his converts not only followed the Savior into the Kingdom, but into Christian ministry and the world's mission fields.
In 1939 he married an Irish nurse named Martha. Together they had three sons. Paul and David are ministers, and Philip is a teacher. Leonard went home to be with the Lord in November of 1994.

a burning message from a burning heart!

I have read many christian books in the past, but this stands out. Bro Leonard did not beat about the bush. The chapters are short enough to be read in about fifteen minutes, but they are so packed that each may take you two solid hours to read. Every chapter is thought-provoking. Since I got the book in 1984, I have read it more than 30 times! And each time, it appears as if I never read it before. If you would read this book, be ready to end up upon your knees!

A bolt from the blue to the heart of a complacent Church

There is no other way to describe Leonard Ravenhill. And as the man is, so are his writings. If you can read this book and not be driven to your knees, even as you rend your clothing, then buddy you're dead already!
A condensation of "Why Revival Tarries" into a few words would yield the truth that it's Man's fault alone. You see, God wants to pour out revival, to set all of us ablaze with the fire of His Spirit, but we are so oblivious to the truth that our hearts are totally turned away from Him that we cannot begin to acquire what He is so richly wanting to shower us with.
It starts with repentence - and not your mamby-pamby, watered-down 21st century style repentence, but the kind that tears a man or woman down to the soul, only to allow God to rebuild and reshape. Ravenhill argues that this is not something that happens overnight. If the Church wants revival, it's going to come with a cost. He proceeds to layout a compelling vision of that cost and the crucibles needed to hold what God will pour out.
No Christian library is complete without the works of Leonard Ravenhill, and the best place to start is with "Why Revival Tarries". Get it today and be prepared for the glory that will come.

One of the most convicting books I have ever read.

My husband was given a copy of "Why Revival Tarries" and "Revival Praying" when he joined a men's Bible Institute several years ago at a Baptist Church that we were in at that time. My husband read the book and would read certain passages out loud to me and I couldn't wait to read the books myself. We both have the books well underlined in several places and I have purchased the book since then for several people. A few years before we read these two books, I was listening to a Christian radio station on my way to a friends house. The preacher I heard on the radio was so powerful, that I literally had to pull over to the side of the road. The preacher was Leonard Ravenhill. He was preaching on America and television, etc. and he was so right about what he said about Christianity today. I beleive this is a life changing book and should be read by every Christan. Each time I reread the book, I am convicted again and long to be the Christian he speaks about and would love to see that kind of revival take place in our churces. You will never be the same once you have read what this tremendous man of God has said.
