Highly Recommend!!! Awesome Read... : )
By GiGi
I loved, loved, loved Lane McFarland's newest book, Cameron(The Daughters of Alastair MacDougall). It was such a great read... so much adventure, suspense, romance and lively characters. The author draws you into Cameron's world, a healer for the MacDougall clan- not to mention one of four daughters of Alastair MacDougall. We learn of feuding between neighboring Scotts- in particular the MacDougall clan and the Graham clan... and tensions between the Scotts and English. Lane "owned me" from the first paragraph- I have smiled with the characters...laughed with them and been "outraged" with others. I have fought battles... cheered for "gorgeous" Robert... : ) ... and whipped the "bad guys".... : ) Lane allowed me to join in in the excitement of her first book- rich in history, beautiful scenery, romance and delightful characters. This is a book that will definitely stick with you, even after the last page is turned. I can't wait to begin Lane's next book about Cameron's sister, Heather... I look forward to many more fantastic reads from Lane McFarland!!

I didn't like it
By Sandy Milan
This book had all the 'ingredients' for a good Scottish historical but the author didn't pull it off in my opinion. I think that this is the author's debut book and I'm loathe to totally trash a new author. Other reviewers have summarised the plot so I'm going to just go over what I didn't like. It's important to know that the h is a healer though for some of the comments below to make sense
+++Spoilers+++
The ingredients I was talking about:
*Feuding between the H and h's clans
*Kidnap the h
*Mistrust between the H and h
*Seduce the h
*Villainous ex-mistress
*English soldiers attacking
*Pregnant h
*H's clan members come to love the h
*H still distrusts h
*H marries h
*h loves H but he can't admit the same
*Attack on h by ex-mistress
*H goes away to war and is captured
*h goes to the rescue
*h accused of being a witch
etc, etc
I think the author totally lost me though with the very slapdash way in which the h gave herself to the H for the first time. I really doubt that the daughter of a Laird would have been so quick to give away her honour. Up to that point there'd been a little chemistry but I doubt a woman of her age and background would've behaved so thoughtlessly. I also didn't respect the H for the way he did things and the lack of contact between them for more than a month after the event. Both knew she could fall pregnant but it had very little impact on either. She was supposed to be a healer for heaven's sake. Honestly I just didn't think this part was at all credible since the H knew who and what she was and he would've known the implications. I hated that he treated her like a mistress and with little respect since his ex had told everyone that he'd slept with the h. This is my very least favourite plot line in romance books. This felt like a 'modern' historical and I prefer more authentic stories.
Some of the other plotlines were troublesome and trite. The ex-mistress was merely a maid yet we are to believe that she thought the H would marry her. He gave her no signs of interest either. The very pregnant h riding out to rescue the H when he was captured was honestly too much. The way the h gave birth and then was up and walking around when reunited with her husband had me more than rolling my eyes. I could go on and on.
I'm not sure if I'd read another book by this author.

Great Scottish Adventure
By JINHOU
Laird Robert Graham is sick of the feud between his clan and the neighboring MacDougall’s clan. But when the MacDougalls strike at his young innocent brother and an elder, Robert is livid and promises to exact revenge. Cameron MacDougall plans to be the best healer she can possibly be for her clan. When Laird Graham kidnaps her to heal his brother and friend, Cameron’s healing arts are put to the test. She is sure her father has no part in hurting an innocent child and elderly man, but when Robert shows her the arrows that were used in the attack, she cannot deny they are her father’s colors.
This story grabbed me from page one. Robert is wonderful...a loving brother and superior leader. But as leader and must protect his people. We see his kindness, his compassion in how he relates to his brothers and sisters, his clan, and finally to Cameron. Cameron is strong and independent, with a huge heart. She vows to escape Robert’s clutches, but the longer she stays with the Grahams, the more she realizes she never wants to leave. It was wonderful to watch these two battle each other, conquer their prejudices against the other, and ultimately surrender to each other. This story was such a treat!
