Way complex

First off the book is very nice high quality for what it is. The bad part is how vague sections are. It really needed to come with some pre printed out characters with moves filled out on the blank game sheet like in the end of the book. This system uses way too many modifiers that seem to cancel each other out, way too much going on. Your not going to retain what you learned if you stop playing for a few weeks. That said the nice thing is the npc sim style matches and the structure to set up your federation. That is all A+ ideas but the mechanics of combat and the over use of modifiers make it an incredibly steep over complex learning curve.

An entertaining RPG experience, great for fans of pro wrestling

Professional wrestling, the "fake" sport as many would call it, is portrayed quite realistically in The Squared Circle(TSC), aside from matches not having pre-determined outcomes in most cases. TSC instead opts to make pro wrestling in its universe a competitive physical combat sport, like MMA but more theatrical, and certainly more violent. Your characters will find themselves fighting against the odds, joining up with like-minded heroes and villains of the ring, and above all, striving to end up with a title belt in the end. Like in the real industry, physical ability alone won't get you anywhere; you have to make smart decisions, and choose who you call out, and who you flatter. The game mechanics are quite amazing; this is one of the only RPGs out there for pro wrestling, and it does its job admirably. Never once did I feel that it stopped being role-playing, and became roll-playing. The rules aren't too complicated, either, and there's an optional "set" of rules for running your own "promotion" aka wrestling company, which could easily keep you busy for ages. The subject matter can vary, depending on the age group playing. If you have children playing, they're more likely to want to play John Cena-type characters, fighting the good fight, but if you're my age(20) you might find yourself more content playing out scenarios similar to the infamous Attitude Era of the World Wrestling Federation. The possibilities are endless, and this is really a great "starter" RPG for newcomers to the genre, and a great way to change things up and have the party do some good old-fashioned wrasslin' rather than investigating dusty libraries or fighting multi-headed serpents.

Not what I was expecting

First of all I will say I have not actually played the game yet. I bought this game to have a wrestling RPG for my kids as I have promised them for 2 years to create one and have not had the time. I read the other review that gave this game 5 stars and all I can assume is that the review was written by a creater of the game. The flaws are these, first the editing was horrible, grammar punctuation and spelling apparently were not important. Second, putting together the rules of the game is like assembling a jigsaw puzzle the pieces are everywhere. Third, some very important sections are extremely vague, like how skill points work. I read through character creation twice and still am not sure in what part of the game a "high spot" bonus helps but yet it is important enough to be affected by character attributes. I plan to create characters as I can and still test the game out, but at this point it does not look promising. If after I can finally get the puzzle together and play I change my mind, I will post my reaction here. But, for now I find myself wishing I had bought "Know Your Role" for $0.74.
