What a fantastic book, these authors really put their heart and soul into making sure the readers understood deploying SharePoint 2016. This book will not only help you understand the great new features of SharePoint 2016, but also help you truly grasp how to get a proper installation and configuration going for your business. I enjoyed this book. People who are interested in SharePoint Server 2016 will most probably be interested in reading this book as this book covers deployment techniques, common best practices as well hybrid configuration howto’s.
Readers can gain in knowledge as real world scenarios are part in this book. One of the things that was especially interesting is that the authors covered SharePoint as it different stacks like Disaster Recovery, High Availability and Office Online Server. A lot of examples, PowerShell commands and personal touches are in each chapter. The book will become a reference covering all the courses that you need to be to become an IT professional.
It’s a 5-star book since I think it's important for anybody who is using SharePoint to know what the advantages as drawbacks are.

Understanding and Implementing the Mentoring Process Leads to a Legacy of Leaders

The book is very practical. The author gives insight both into the profile of the mentor as well as the mentee. The author discusses both obstacles and benefits of the mentoring process. He cautions the mentor that the selection of the mentee is crucial since you want to invest in people who will benefit both the organization and enrich yourself as a mentor. In the final analysis, good mentoring benefits the entire organization in producing a legacy of leaders.

Packs a lot of wisdom about mentoring in a short book

Mentoring 101 is a very short and practical book on mentoring by a well known expert on leadership. The book has a distinct 'corporate' feel, suitable for bosses and managers, and takes a top-down approach to mentoring (i.e. the mentor initiating the mentoring relationship and deciding who to mentor). The book has three parts. First is 'Getting Ready to Mentor Others' which discusses the reasons behind becoming a mentor and how to adopt a mentor's mindset up-front. Part two is about 'Engaging in the Mentoring Process', talking about who to mentor, how to set them up for success, how to help them do better work, and how to create the right environment. Part three is on 'Taking People Higher', where he discusses how to help others become better people and how to handle it if they surpass you.

There is a lot of great advice throughout the book. Maxwell discusses motivations, the universal need to feel worthwhile and to be appreciated. He makes the key point that people buy into the person before they buy into their leadership - developing an authentic relationship is key. He also tells us about the need to make leadership development a top priority, treating every person as unique (bringing out their best, not trying to clone yourself), and how to help others find and use their strengths. Finally, the importance of building a culture for mentoring is discussed.

If you keep in mind that this book is extremely short and not a comprehensive guide to all-things-mentoring, it can make a great introduction for the relational leader or manager ready to get serious about leadership development.

About the Author
Abdel Bari Atwan is a Palestinian writer and journalist. He was the editor in chief at the London-based daily al-Quds al-Arabi for twenty-five years and now edits the Rai al-Youm news website—the Arab world's first Huffington Post–style outlet. He is a regular contributor to a number of publications, including the Guardian and the Scottish Herald, and he is a frequent guest on radio and television, often appearing on the BBC's Dateline London.

Atwan interviewed Osama bin Laden twice in the late 1990s and has cultivated uniquely well-placed sources within the various branches of al Qaeda and other jihadi groups, including IS, over the last twenty years. The Best Book on the Islamic State

With the appearance of the Islamic State (or ISIS, ISIL, IS, ISI, or Deash) — this is how they want to be known and this is how the author refers to them — there have been a plethora of books on the subject. These books cover the political spectrum, and they vary greatly in informational value.

This is the best book on the Islamist State for one reason: It strives to be, and largely succeeds in being, one of the most objective accounts of this group.

The Islamic State is a digital caliphate. What sets them apart from other terrorist groups is their technological know-how. They skillfully navigate the back channels of the dark internet to recruit soldiers, obtain financing, move money, conduct cyber-intelligence, or hack internet or bank accounts. Without the internet, Atwan tells us, the Islamic State could not exist.

This book introduces us to the shadowy world of international terrorism and crime and is more powerful than any book of fiction. The IS has media savvy and an incredible technological knowledge of the internet. They know how to propagate their views to produce the greatest effect to the largest number of people. The immolation of the Jordanian airpilot was a good example. The brutality of the airman’s death shocked both the Western and Islamic world and was their way of saying using shock and awe methods that they are in the Middle East to stay.

While the subtitle indicates that they are the digital caliphate, a good part of the book, perhaps one third, concerns the origins of the Islamic State. Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that the United States is responsible for creating the IS when it completely destabilized Iraq following its invasion. According to Atwan this is only partially correct. Other factors such as the civil war in Syria and internal strive within Muslim jihadists contributed to the birth of IS.

The main promoter of the Islamic State, the author tells us, is our most intimate, stable, ally in the Middle East, Saudi Arabia, who consistently and regularly funnels millions of dollars, not only to the IS, but to other terrorist groups.

This book contains real information. The Islamic State has displayed a savagery, ferocity, and brutality that has shocked both the West and the Middle East. But the Islamic State is not just an ad-hoc bunch of unruly thugs. For all intents and purposes, the Islamic State is a de facto nation state. The territory under IS control covers the area greater than that of Great Britain and over 9 million people. It issues its own currency; it revived the monetary unit of the Mediaeval Caliphate, the golden dinar. It issues passports; requires vehicles within its territory to display Islamic State license plates; has its own flag, and coat of arms. Islamic State soldiers even have their own salute; ironically, it is the same salute Sasha Baron Cohen’s character used in The Dictator — the right index finger pointing upwards. The IS areas have a working postal system and a functional governmental and judicial system.

It has a treasury with millions and millions of dollars. Widespread news accounts indicated that when IS besieged Mosul, the Iraqi national troops fled and left an enormous cache of cash, one-half billion — that’s a “b” — dollars, and military equipment. Atwan relates that this year the IS published its first annual budget: $2 billion.

The author coherently explains what is going on with the highly organized and well-funded Islamist State and how it contrasts with the efforts of Al Quaeda which revolved mostly around the leadership of one man, Osama Bin Laden. The author gives great background on why this region has coalesced against the West in a determination to restore self-rule under the 18th Century puritanical ideology of Wahabism, and why they are utilizing savagery to gain recruits, adherents and to spread fear in an effort to sabotage economies in regions heavily subsidized by tourism. He also gives excellent advice on what is needed to restore a semblance of civility in what has more and more been recognized as essentially a civil war between Sunni and the Shiite religious authority. It is not through invasion, occupation and force of arms, but through education, and an understanding of the region's diversity of religious groups and how to assist them in living together as is done in the West, that will ultimately bring a sense of stability to this region. The use of social media which is instantaneous and easily accessed is now uniting adherents of an Islamic state, and the visceral imagery of terrorist attacks helps to spread their message of fear and intolerance.

This is a difficult book to evaluate because the author, a well known journalist, has drawn a vast amount of information from many informants via interviews and internet contacts, but does not name them because of extreme danger to the informants. So, crediting the book depends on the reader's trust in the author. It rings true to me.

The book should scare hell out of most readers. Islamic State (this is the way Atwan refers to it) is well-organized, well-financed, ruthless and has generated commitment and loyalty from Muslims from all over the world. Al-Baghdadi, the leader and self-proclaimed Caliph has been accepted as that by sizable numbers of people. He is, if Atwan is correct, charismatic, smart and ruthless, and as able at leadership as he is at theology. Islamic State is fare more dangerous than previous terror groups. Now, about that word "terror." Terror is a method, not an end in itself; these people are not nihilists who love violence for violence's sake. Violence generates attention in world media, vast publicity and contributes to the reputation of formidable ferocity. Islamic State is a state, controlling 240,000 square miles and 6 million people, issuing license plates, having its own coinage and an extremely sophisticated internet presence. The vision is plain, to recreate the glory days of the original Caliphate which ruled from Spain to Central Asia; and Mecca and Medina are on the list. This is ambitious, and terror is a useful tactic.

Atwan's various chapters can be read on their own. He describes the background, including crucial information about the early Caliphate and 20th century history of Iraq. The initial chapters delineate the digital aspect, and do so extremely well; this is close to must-read. Islamic State appears to be holding its own in cyberspace and to represent extreme danger to operating systems for everything from drones to power grids. An appreciation by Phillip Taylor MBE and Elizabeth Taylor of Richmond Green Chambers

Since the 1980s approximately, if not some time before, sovereign debt has emerged as a well-nigh intractable international problem. Writing in the foreword to this thoughtful and scholarly examination of sovereign debt, John B Taylor of Stanford University refers to trenchant observations made by the book’s erudite and world renowned co-author Lee Buchheit to the effect that ‘there are several key common elements in sovereign debt crisis, whether in emerging economies, or in some of the more advanced European countries today. ‘You can see these elements,’ remarks Taylor ‘in all the chapters of this book.’

Published recently by the Oxford University Press, the book, in the words of its co-author Rosa Lastra presents ‘a general treatise on sovereign debt management’ and contains no less than twenty-eight learned articles replete with the carefully researched analyses of no less than thirty-six expert contributors, mainly from top international law practices, government agencies and leading academic institutions.

Their impressive slate of practical experience says Lastra, includes lending, borrowing, regulating, analyzing restructuring and litigating sovereign debt. The idea for the book was the fortunate outcome of the meeting of the International Monetary Law Committee in Rome in 2011 – this being a standing committee of the International Law Association.

Easy to navigate, the book includes a detailed table of contents, a useful index and extensive tables of cases and of legislation. To say that the book is a brilliant and time-saving research tool is a bit of an understatement, for the amount of research contained in this single volume is truly mind-bending.

We lost count of the number of journals cited in the footnotes, but we would estimate over a hundred. This is certainly an invaluable source of wisdom and insight into the thorny problems created by international debt which now afflicts developed as well as emerging countries -- plus, there is considerable emphasis on postulating its causes and possible cures.

The various articles, particularly those by Buchheit -- who originally trained as a philosopher before reading law -- and for whom this book is a tribute -- will provide much food for thought on sovereign debt in particular and debt in general. ‘Borrowing money, he says in the book’s final article ‘can become a hideous addiction’ further pointing out that democracies in particular, struggle with the grim realities.

By the way, the fascinating biographical note on Buchheit is well worth reading. Appropos the Scottish referendum and the ongoing secessionist problems of the Ukraine, it is interesting and strangely topical to note the title of his thesis published by Yale University Press in the 70s: ‘Secession: the Legitimacy of Self-Determination’, which focused on, for example, Katanga, Biafra, the Kurds and Bangladesh.

Suffice to say that this book should attract a wide readership, not merely of lawyers, but economists, of course, as well as commentators, policy makers and politicos worldwide.

The best harmony book I've ever read

While i can't say i've read everything on the subject, far from it, i have read Schenker's and Hindemith's books on harmony, Forte's book and a number of others commonly found in University libraries. (My BA is in Music Theory & Composition - fyi) I've found that many of these authors are genuinely interesting and insightful (Schenker in particular, much to my own surprise) however none come close to Mathieu's book in terms of illuminating the essence of the modal/tonal universe for me. Beginning with the actual physics of sound, Matheiu's book builds a theoretical framework like no other, with fewer assumptions and on a more solid footing than anyone else i am aware of. More excitingly, he has helped me to expand greatly the harmonic universe within my own compositions.

As one who has been involved all his life in the field of music (40+ years), i can say that this is the most important book i know for anyone interested in music theory, improvisation and composition.

Simply amazing - a real "ear-opener"!

What a great book! This should perhaps be the very first required reading for any music education. Mathieu first steps back from our usual musical assumptions and examines how sound works. The physics of sound is integral to our experience of it and western music uses a tuning system which is arbitrary (if advantageous in many ways). This is the book that answers so many questions I couldn't even identify - Why does music 'work' the way it does? How do overtones work and what implications do they have for music as a whole? Why does a minor third sound 'sad' and a major third 'happy' (is it all cultural conditioning)? Mathieu definitely addresses the spiritual side of all this, of sound and music and intervals, but never presumes to have answers to such questions. I've only explored a part of the book - it goes on to look at so many facets of the structure and possible organizations of sound and music, really advanced theory. Oh, and throughout, exercises are given, singing the pure intervals at hand, for instance, which serve to hone the ear and the voice and to make all of this sink in to where it counts. Anyone interested in music and theory should check this one out, a definite classic!

as good as the first

Quicker read than the first but still good and gave a nice look into the Swedish boating world. I was very happy to see one of the female characters grow some gumption and stand up to an 18th century husband!! Not much development into the main protagonist male character though. The plot wasnt too difficult to figure out about half way in, but entertaining nonetheless and I enjoy the Swedish backdrop.

Viveca Sten captures the feel of summer in both of the first 2 Sandhamn mysteries. The season becomes an integral part of the story. Settings are brilliantly conveyed and characters neatly drawn. some plot twists are spottable .........but it's the journey that is enjoyable! Highly recommended - I look forward to the next!

Totally awesome, an exciting read

Totally awesome, an exciting read. Sweden must be an exciting country and very beautiful. You get whisked there as you read this book, how great is that! And you don't have to leave your arm chair.
Viveca writes a very suspenseful loaded book. She has become a favorite of mine. I purchased the kindle version on pre release. The translation is perfect no mistakes and all grammar is correct YAY a joy to read.
Cannot wait until her next book is out.
