This is the best General History available

Imagine having the gall to write a history of "Narrative Film" -- not just Hollywood production, but ALL film, from ALL OVER...
Well Cook does, and does it better than anyone else.
The most amazing thing about this book is that is reads so well: you can literally open it up anywhere, start reading, and start learning -- and be entertained at the same time. I just love reading this book.
The second amazing thing is that Cook seems to have seen a lot of movies and taken the time to think carefully about them. As a result his comments, his sense of historical perspective, and his assertions are usually accurate, frequently insightful, and always enlightenling.
If you're studying film in ANY context, this is the book to buy. If you prefer a video store with a foreign language section instead of your local Blockbuster, this is the catalog for you. Within days of reading this book I was making lists of films that I had to see (The Red And The White, and the Wadja trilogy among them), and running out to find them.
For those in need of a text-book, this is the best value-for-money you can get. For thos FEARING a text-book, relax: it's actually a real page turner.
Any short-commings? There are some minor factual errors (the photographs demonstrating zoom, telephoto and wide lenses use inaccurate frames from Barry Lyndon, for example), but nothing to worry about -- there so much about this book that's good it really doesn't make a difference. The only real problem is that it will never be big enough.
This is the book against which the others are judged.

A textbook of narrative film from its beginnings to today.

A History of Narrative Film chronicles the earliest history
of the narrative film from its beginnings with Edison and
the Lumieres, through the great silent era, the advents of
sound and color, to today's world of computer generated
special effects. The book focuses on significant technical
developments and artistic trends in the history of films. It
includes chapters on the coming of sound, Eisenstein and the
rise of montage, genres like the film noir, directors such as
Orson Welles, W.D. Griffith and Alfred Hitchcock, and foreign
films. It is richly illustrated with photos and prints from
most of the films covered in the text.

David Cook is a professor of English and Film Studies at Emory
University in Atlanta, Georgia. He has taught courses in
film studies for over 15 years.

With this book Pedro delves into how he personally lived those seventy days in the cordillera, the day-to-day struggle to survive, and how with difficulty, a lot of hard work and strong team spirit the group created a survival machine in the mountains.

About the Author
Pedro Algorta was born in Montevideo in 1951 and is one of the sixteen survivors of the Uruguayan plane that crashed in the Andes in 1972. After the accident, he lived in Buenos Aires where he graduated with a degree in Economic Sciences from the University of Buenos Aires, and then went on to get an MBA from Stanford University. He has had a successful business career as an executive at various companies: Techint, Quilmes and Peñaflor, among others. He is married and has three children and two grandchildren.

Easy to read

After reading the Blessing book written by Jim Kibler and receiving the blessings, I could not get any more excited than to find out that he wrote another book about how to unlock the blessings. This book has absolutely brought me into a victorious life. If you need any type of healing or financial increase , read this book. I like this book because it give me the inspiration and the knowledge that I need to understand how to live in abundant life like Jesus want us to live. I recommend this book to everyone. After reading the first few chapters, I purchased 10 more books just to pass them around. I believe that everyone should read this book. Get it now.

Simple Book

I choose a three star rating, not because the book was bad, but it lacked explanation of the topics addressed. The writing style seemed more of a shotgun approach. While I agreed with everything written the author does not take the time to explain the 'why' of what he is sharing.

For a new believer this just may be an excellent book because it is very simple in nature. The author gives a highlight of the major components of the Bible as the basis of the teaching he brings in what we may possess. One of his major points is that you just do what the Word says, which might be the reason he does not expound upon the explanations.

Therefore, I rated in the middle of the stars. The subject matter was good, but the style lacks in development based upon my opinon.

If you want the Key to unlocking the blessings of God...Then get this book!!!

Not since the Bible has there been a book that explains step by step the Name of Jesus and how when we can operate in the power of that name and have our lives, hearts and minds changed and revitalized to see and hear and operate in the word of God in a whole new way. The way God intended us to live as victors and not victims. It's time for all of us to take our rightful place in Christ to rise up and bring the solution that is The Name of Jesus. It has always been God's intention that we live in the Blessing and this book will show you how to get your bills paid and to heal your body all based on The Name of Jesus.
